"God's Heart"--Nicholas, age 3

"For want of a nail the shoe was lost,
for want of a shoe the horse was lost,
for want of a horse the knight was lost,
for want of a knight the battle was lost.
So it was a kingdom was lost - all for want of a nail.
"

--quoted by Benjamin Franklin,
Poor Richard's Almanack

Timing matters.
The route to pick up my sons from montessori was a mundane freeway experience. One day, I noticed a man standing at the off-ramp with a sign "Family in Crisis". Sadly, it was still mundane. The next day he was gone. A few days after that, he was back. I didn't think more of it until I chanced to read from a Christian daily meditation book and the story was about a woman who delivered a simple, healthy lunch to a man standing on a busy roadside. I realized I could make a difference, no matter how small. I carefully packaged a few treats and nutritious edibles the next morning in between cereal pouring and packing backpacks. Perhaps my small act of caring could break a cycle or clear a rut. Somewhere, somehow. All ready to foist my miniscule deed on the world that afternoon, I reached the spot and found him gone. I returned home and fed the snacks to my sons. He returned a few days later, when I had nothing for him, and then was gone again the following day. This is a story of loss. Seize your opportunities. Persist. Seek out. And hope God grants you both blessed timing.
